The Jindows are denim panels fitted into a window opening in place of glazing. They are stretched over a hardwood sash, sealed at the perimeter, and set into your existing frame. They are made only to survey, only on commission, and only for openings that are not required for egress or ventilation.

Every survey, in the afternoon
A Jindow changes the light in a room, and light in a room is not something you can assess from a floor plan or a photograph sent by email. We attend every commission in person, between two and four in the afternoon, and sit in the room for twenty minutes. Roughly a third of the enquiries we survey do not become orders, and about half of those are declined by us rather than by the customer.

What a Jindow is for
A great many window openings do nothing. They face a wall six feet away, or a service alley, or a neighbour’s downpipe. They admit a grey light nobody wants and they cannot be bricked up without a permit and a mason. Those are the openings the Jindows were designed for.
What comes through a Jindow is not a view. It is a warm, even, indigo-cast light that changes with the sun the way a tent wall does, and a room with two of them takes on a quality most owners describe as calm and a minority describe as unsettling. We survey every commission in person, in the afternoon, before we quote.

Care
- Dust the face annually with a dry brush.
- Do not clean with any liquid. There is no glass to streak.
- Inspect the perimeter gasket each spring.
- The panel will lighten from the outside in. This is the whole point.

Is this legal?
The Jindows are a decorative treatment and are not a substitute for egress, light, or ventilation where your building code requires them. We survey every commission, we ask to see your permit, and we have declined roughly a third of the enquiries we have received. Consult your local code official before you contact us.
What happens in rain?
The exterior face is treated and the sash is gasketed, but a Jindow is cotton in a wall and will darken through a storm. It dries within a day. In a driven-rain exposure we will recommend against the commission and usually decline it.
Can I have one and keep the glass?
Yes, and this is what we suggest to most enquirers: the Jindow sash fits inboard of an existing double-glazed unit as a fixed interior panel. You keep the wall’s performance and lose only the view, which was the part you wanted to lose.
What do neighbours say?
In our experience, nothing for about a year, and then one question. We have never had a complaint escalate beyond a conversation over a fence, though we accept our sample is small and self-selecting.
