The Jarpet
The floor is the largest surface in the room and the least considered.

The Jarpet is laid as tiles, not rolled as broadloom. Each tile is a panel of reclaimed denim bonded to jute, cut square, and set by hand in a running bond so that no two adjacent tiles share a wash grade. A room takes two installers three days. It takes roughly nine pairs of jeans per square yard.

A floor cannot be tested in a laboratory, because a laboratory does not have children, dogs, or a person who comes in from the rain and does not take their shoes off. We laid our third tile specification down the main corridor of our own workshop in 2020 and have walked on it every working day since. Sixty percent of what we know about the Jarpet came off that corridor.

Why tiles
Broadloom fails all at once. A tiled floor fails one square at a time, and a single square is a thing you can replace on a Tuesday. Every Jarpet installation ships with twelve percent overage held in your wash grade, stored at our facility and released against your address for ten years.
The running bond is not decorative. Laying tiles offset means the seams never form a continuous line for a foot to catch, and it means no two adjacent squares share a wash grade — which is what keeps a floor made of used jeans from reading as a novelty rug. Up close it is unmistakably denim. From standing height it is a field.

Ownership
Care
- Vacuum weekly on the lowest setting. No beater bar, ever.
- Blot spills immediately; denim releases most things if you are quick.
- Never steam clean. Never wet extract.
- Lift and rotate high-traffic tiles annually to even the wear.
Questions we are asked
Before you commit
Is it warm underfoot?
Yes. With the standard felt pad the Jarpet returns R-1.4, which is comparable to a mid-weight wool carpet and considerably warmer than any hard floor.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
We do not recommend the Jarpet in any room with a floor drain.
What about pets?
Claws do not catch on a woven face the way they catch on a loop pile, and denim hides a great deal. Accidents are a tile replacement, which is the argument for tiles.
Will it fade by the windows?
It will, and unevenly. Owners who dislike this should specify the Ten-Year wash, which has already done most of its fading. Owners who like it should do nothing.
What do socks do?
They slide, marginally, on a new Jarpet, and stop within a month once the pile has taken a set. Two customers have described the first fortnight as unnerving. Both kept the floor.
