Ten-Year wash is standard. Raw is not offered on this piece.
Fifty-two pairs across the frame, the base rail, and a headboard pieced from waistbands so that the buttons and belt loops sit at shoulder height. Every Jed leaves us in the Ten-Year wash whether you want it or not, because the alternative is a customer waking up on the fourth morning with a blue shoulder and a ruined set of sheets.
Development
Fourteen months, and the fourth morning
Crocking is the transfer of surface dye by friction, and a bed is the worst possible object for it: eight hours a night, warm, slightly damp, against white cotton. Our first prototype went home with a member of staff who reported nothing on Monday, nothing on Tuesday, nothing on Wednesday, and on Thursday sent a photograph of a pillowcase we have since had framed. Fourteen months and nine wash protocols later we concluded there is no raw finish that survives a bed. So we stopped offering one.

Why there is no Full
We make the Jed in Queen and King and nothing else. A Full-size bed pieced from waistbands puts a seam directly under the lumbar region of a single sleeper, because the waistband spacing that works across sixty inches does not work across fifty-four. We could shrink the pieces. We would rather make two sizes properly.
The headboard is the reason people buy this bed and the reason it takes thirteen weeks. Fifty-two waistbands are laid out flat, arranged for button spacing and label placement, photographed, revised, and only then cut. You will spend more hours looking at that headboard than at any other surface we make, and it is the only piece where we send the customer the layout for approval before we commit.

- A mattress. We do not make one and would do it badly.
- Bedding. The Jillows are sold separately and are not required.
Ownership
Care
- Vacuum the headboard monthly. Dust settles in the belt loops.
- Rotate nothing. The Jed is not symmetrical and is not meant to be.
- Spot-treat with cold water only. Never a detergent, never a steamer.
- The headboard will lighten at shoulder height within two years.
Questions we are asked
Before you commit
Will it stain my sheets?
Not any more. The Ten-Year wash removes essentially all loose indigo before the piece leaves us, which is precisely why it is not optional on this product. On a raw Jed the answer would be yes, and it took us a framed pillowcase to accept that.
Can I order it raw anyway?
No. This is the one place we override the customer, and we have turned down the request enough times to be comfortable saying so on the product page.
Is the headboard comfortable to sit against?
It is upholstered over a 40 mm foam core, so yes — but there are buttons and rivets in it. Owners who read in bed tend to add a pillow. Owners who do not, do not notice.
Why is a bed only two sizes?
Because the waistband spacing that makes the headboard work does not scale down to a Full without putting a seam where your back goes. We would rather decline the size than ship the compromise.
Is it noisy?
No. Denim over a sprung slat base is markedly quieter than an upholstered bed in a woven fabric, because there is no loose weave to shift. This was not a design goal. We simply noticed.
