Jallpaper is reclaimed denim, milled to 1.2 millimetres and laminated to a paper backing. It is not an image of denim. You can feel the twill under your hand, read the fade across a seam, and find the occasional ghost of a pocket, because those things were there in the original garment and we did not remove them.
Development
Nine months on paste
Cotton absorbs paste, and cotton that has absorbed paste unevenly dries into a wall covered in faint dark clouds that only appear on day three, by which point your decorator has gone home and been paid. We went through nine months and twenty-two adhesive combinations before accepting the only reliable answer: do not put paste on the material at all. Paste the wall, hang the length dry, and the backing does the rest. Every roll ships with that instruction printed on the inside of the tube, where it cannot be thrown away with the wrapper.

Why it costs what it costs
A printed denim-effect wallpaper costs about a tenth of this and, from more than four feet away, looks broadly similar. We are aware of that. The difference is that a print has a repeat, and once you have seen the repeat in a wallpaper you cannot unsee it — the same pocket appears every thirty-three inches for the length of your wall, forever.
Jallpaper has no repeat, because it is made of garments and garments are not identical. The trade is that colour varies between bolts from different runs, which is why we ask you to order fifteen percent over and to hang from a single batch. Customers who order short and come back six months later for one more roll are the only people we routinely disappoint.

Ownership
Care
- Dust annually with a soft brush, downward, along the twill.
- Never wipe with a damp cloth. It is cotton on a wall.
- Keep off walls behind hobs, in bathrooms, or below a damp course.
- It will fade in direct sun, unevenly, which is expected.
Questions we are asked
Before you commit
Is it a print?
No, and that is essentially the entire cost difference. It is real reclaimed denim milled to 1.2 mm on a paper backing. A print has a repeat you will notice for the rest of your life; this does not, because garments are not identical.
Can my decorator hang it?
Yes, provided they paste the wall and not the paper. This is the single instruction that matters and it is printed inside every tube. Paste on the face dries into dark clouds that appear about three days after your decorator has left.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
No. Nor behind a hob, nor below a damp course. It is cotton, and cotton on a wall in a wet room is a mistake we would rather you made with somebody else’s product.
What if I run out mid-wall?
Then you have a visible batch line, and we cannot fix it. Order fifteen percent over and hang from one batch. This is the most common complaint we receive and very nearly the only avoidable one.
Does it make a room feel smaller?
Yes, measurably so on all four walls, which is why we sell it almost exclusively as a single feature wall and will say so on the phone before you order enough for a room.
